Portal Land
March 6 – March 29, 2015
A portal has opened itself in the city which allows us to travel into another dimension full of imagination and oddities. It is a parallel world where the impossible is made possible and the unexpected is everywhere.
Alex creates work that is weird, wild, and wonderful.
His first solo show at Land Gallery is filled with mind-bending imagery, decadent colors and a thoughtful what-if premise.
About Alex DeSpain
For the past decade, Alex DeSpain has been expressing his creative energy through illustration. Often pulling inspiration from Sumi-e ink paintings, relief and screen prints, four color print processes, modern art, graphic design, & pop art, DeSpain has created a unique style—a world in which his vision can exist.
Working within a set of aesthetic guidelines has pushed him to focus more on the message of the imagery. Now he finds himself exploring new subject matter constantly and he believes in keeping the creative spark flowing.
Currently, he lives in Portland, Oregon with his graphic designer wife, Vanessa and their two pets. He shares a studio at The Ford Building while always taking on new freelance projects and collaborations.
