July 12–August 1st, 2013
Opening Reception with local artists, Friday, July 12, 2013 from 6–9pm.
Scout Books and Land Gallery are proud to present a literary-minded group art show, Scout Books: The Reading Room.
Drawing inspiration from Scout Books’ line of illustrated short stories, Scout Books: The Reading Room presents new visions of classic stories by great authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Katherine Mansfield, Jack London, Virginia Woolf, The Brothers Grimm, and many more!
With dozens of original pieces and prints, ranging from Roman Muradov’s delicately rendered ink illustrations of Edgar Allan Poe’s seminal detective story “The Purloined Letter” to local artist Meg Hunt’s depiction of Mark Twain’s satirical tale “Eve’s Diary,” Scout Books: The Reading Room celebrates the unique potential for collaboration across the years between author and artist.
The illustrated Scout Book editions of these classic stories will be available for reading in the gallery itself, creating a simple but engrossing multi-media experience, as words and pictures combine to transport viewer-readers into imaginative other worlds
