New Drawings and Old Friends
September 7-30th, 2012.
Land Gallery is excited to bring renowned artist David Lanham from North Carolina to Portland for an exclusive solo show.
David works by day at the Iconfactory — the world leader in custom icons—creating icons and interfaces that are used by millions world-wide; from the Twitterrific bird “Ollie” to the original, beautiful leaf that graces the icon of Portland-based Panic’s Coda web design software.
But David doesn’t just make icons — he also creates fantastical worlds filled with imaginary creatures, friendly monsters and lush landscapes.
His illustrations lead you to create a narrative in your head, and the faces of his out-of-this-world creations touch you with their human honesty.
Opening Reception: Friday, September 7th, 2012 at 6pm
Show runs daily through September 30th, 2012
David is taking over the gallery, with a mix of large-format pieces and smaller, more personal sized sketches and prints.
Several large-format pieces will be running from nearly floor to ceiling, featuring close-ups of some of David’s character creations.
David In His Own Words
I’ve always had a fascination with the contrasts of nature and technology.
With an active imagination, it’s let me love both traditional and digital arts. I had the luck of learning from some amazing teachers growing up and followed it through college where I studied drawing and design at the University of Central Florida, graduating in 2004.
Since then, I’ve been making all sorts of icons for all sorts of software at the Iconfactory while keeping up with my personal work in the off time.
My artwork is made to be fun and enjoyable as well as a bit open-ended to invite the viewer to add their own story to the imagery. Digital works are created on a Mac, using Photoshop and/or Illustrator.
